The Return of the King | 1955, first edition, first impression.

£2,500.00 GBP

A very good first edition of Tolkien’s The Return of the King, the third and final volume of The Lord of the Rings, following The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers.

Description and Condition:

First edition, first impression. 8vo. Original publishers red cloth in very good condition with some nicks and blemishes here and there. The red topstain is a little faded but still showing relatively well. The original dust jacket has loss to the bottom of the spine. Whilst no restoration has taken place, a very complimentary shade of colouring to match the yellowy brown of the spine has been added to the protective paper behind. This is a rather skilled way of covering the loss without the need for restoration and rather compliments it. Internally, the book has a little foxing to the first few pages and endpapers but other than that is rather lovely inside. No dropped text or number 4 to page 49. A very good example. No dropped text or number 4 to page 49.
