£19,500.00 GBP

One of Peter Beard's most iconic and sought after shots; here unique with a double signature, sterling provenance and being such an early printing of the famous Loliondo Lion Charge.

Double signed by Beard: firstly, signed, dated 'Nov 77', and annotated 'I.C.P.' by Beard in pencil to the back of the print; secondly, signed, titled, and dated by Beard in pencil to the mount.

This original Peter Beard is originally from the collection of Robert Kirschenbaum (1936-2023). It was presented as a gift from Beard, following the opening of Beard’s important show at the International Centre of Photography, in November 1977. It remained in Kirschenbaum's collection until recently. The 1977 landmark installation of his photographs, elephant carcasses, burned diaries, taxidermy, African artifacts, books and personal memorabilia at the International Centre of Photography was Beard's first ever one man show and was held in New York City. To have such an important work, presented by the artist to such an important figure at such an important show in breathtakingly amazing.

Kirschenbaum is a highly revered figure in the global photo scene as he opened up the Japanese and Asian market to many of the leading photographers of his time, including Beard.
