The Return of the King | 1955, first edition, first impression.

£3,000.00 GBP

A very good plus first edition of Tolkien’s The Return of the King, the third and final volume of The Lord of the Rings, following The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers.

Description and Condition:

First edition, first impression. 8vo. Original publishers red cloth. The cloth is still but with a few marks and blemishes here and there. Some small bumping to the ends of the spine. The original dustjacket is a very good + example with a few creases and what looks like paper tape might have once been on the front and back edges, now removed, no tape residue but a noticeable line and slight ruffling of the paper. See the high-res images to see what I mean. The red top stain is in cracking condition, here incredibly vibrant, which is rare as they are usually encountered faded. Internally very fresh indeed. No real defects to mention bar the original map having one small brown stain to it but the rest is in stunning condition. No dropped text and no number 4 to page 49.
